Orlando Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center at Lake Nona

The VA at Lake Nona is my place of employment from October 2015. It’s a beautiful new facility (1.2 million sq ft) with a 24-bed emergency department. This is the first hospital to be built by the Department of Veterans Affairs in the US since 1995. I am waiting for the Emergency Department to open. While we are waiting for the official opening, we will be using the ER as an urgent care.

Celebration Hospital

When I started working at Celebration in 2005, they had a small emergency department. When I left in 2015, the ER had more than doubled in size, and we saw 250-300 people a day. In close proximity to Disney World, the patients come from all over the world and the US.

St. Francis Trauma Emergency Center

St. Francis TEC is a large, regional adult and pediatric trauma center in Tulsa, OK. I learned a lot working there. I took full advantage of opportunities given to me from participating in the trauma codes to riding on the helicopter to learning from some of the best trained professionals in emergency medicine.

Emergency Nurses Association

I have been involved with the Emergency Nurses Association for more than 10 years. I am most active at the local chapter and state levels. I am secretary for the Greater Orlando ENA chapter. I have been selected to be a delegate at the National ENA General Assembly being held this year in Orlando, FL. In the past, my delegate duties have allowed me to meet fellow members from all over the US. I also try to meet the leaders of my professional organization.

HazMat Team

I volunteer for the Emergency Response team at the hospitals where I work. We have fun every year recertifying and participating in mass casualty drills. In the last drill we had a couple busloads of high school students acting as victims of a blast and chemical exposure.
